Privacy Policy
- RemoteTV does not collect, store, or sell your personal information.
- There is no account to create and no sign-in. You just open the app and use it.
- Everything the app needs — your settings and your saved TVs — stays on your iPhone or iPad.
- The app talks to your TV directly over your own Wi-Fi network. Those commands never pass through our servers, because we do not operate any.
- Deleting the app deletes the data it kept.
1. Who we are
RemoteTV is an iOS application published by EXO Studio, based in Hanoi, Vietnam. The app turns your iPhone or iPad into a remote control for compatible televisions on the same local network.
This Privacy Policy explains what RemoteTV does — and does not do — with information when you use the app. It applies to the RemoteTV iOS app only. EXO Studio is the data controller for any personal data described in this policy.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the app.
2. Information we collect
We do not collect personal information. RemoteTV has no user accounts, no registration, no login, and no profile. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location, or payment details.
The app does not include advertising networks, analytics services, tracking pixels, or third-party software development kits that would transmit information about you to us or to anyone else. We do not build user profiles, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
Information that stays on your device
To function as a remote control, RemoteTV stores a small amount of operational data locally in the app's private storage on your device. This information is never transmitted to EXO Studio:
- Paired devices. The name and local network address of televisions you have connected to, so you do not have to search for them again, along with any pairing token the television itself issues.
- App preferences. Settings you choose inside the app, such as your layout or interface preferences.
This data is stored in the app's sandbox, which is protected by iOS. We cannot see it, and neither can other apps on your device.
3. How data is processed
All processing happens on your device and within your own local network.
When you search for a television, RemoteTV uses standard device-discovery protocols to look for compatible televisions on the Wi-Fi network your device is currently joined to. When you press a button in the app, the corresponding command is sent directly from your device to your television over that same local network.
EXO Studio does not operate a server that receives, relays, or logs your remote control activity. There is no cloud component to intercept: your commands travel from your phone to your TV and nowhere else. We have no technical ability to see which television you own, what you watch, or when you use the app.
4. How we use information
Because we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data for us to use. The table below describes the limited data the app handles on your device, why it exists, and — for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom — the legal basis under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that would apply if any of it were treated as personal data.
| Data | Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Paired television name, local network address, and pairing token | To reconnect to a television you have already set up, without making you search for it again each time | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — providing the remote control feature you requested. Stored on your device only. |
| App preferences and settings | To remember how you have configured the app between sessions | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)). Stored on your device only. |
| Local network discovery responses (transient) | To list compatible televisions available on your current Wi-Fi network | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)). Processed in memory during a scan and not transmitted to us. |
| Information you voluntarily include in a support email | To answer your question or investigate a problem you report | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — responding to a request you initiated. |
We do not use any of this data for advertising, profiling, or automated decision-making.
5. Service providers
RemoteTV does not integrate any third-party service providers, back-end platforms, or hosting services that receive data from the app. We have no processors acting on our behalf in connection with the app's operation, because the app does not send data off your device.
Two independent parties are worth naming for clarity:
- Apple. The App Store distributes RemoteTV. Any information Apple collects when you download the app, and any aggregate statistics Apple makes available to us, is governed by Apple's own privacy policy — not by this one. Where Apple provides us with such statistics, they are anonymous and aggregated, and cannot identify you.
- Your email provider and ours. If you choose to contact us, your message reaches us through email infrastructure operated by Google (Gmail). Please send us only the information needed to resolve your issue.
6. Data sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, trade, or disclose your personal information, because we do not collect it. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we have never done so.
There is no data broker relationship, no advertising partner, and no analytics recipient associated with this app.
In the unlikely event that we are required by a valid legal process to disclose information, we can only disclose what we actually hold — which, for the RemoteTV app, is nothing beyond any support correspondence you have chosen to send us.
7. Data retention
Data stored on your device stays there until you remove it. You can clear paired televisions and reset preferences from within the app, and deleting RemoteTV from your device deletes all of the app's stored data along with it. No copy of that data exists anywhere else.
If you email us for support, we keep the correspondence only as long as needed to resolve your issue and to maintain a short record of the exchange — generally no more than 24 months — after which it is deleted. You may ask us to delete it sooner.
8. Data security
The strongest security property of RemoteTV is structural: data that is never collected cannot be breached, leaked, or misused. There is no user database, no cloud account, and no central store of your information for anyone to attack.
On your device, app data is held in the iOS application sandbox and protected by the operating system's file-protection and app-isolation mechanisms. We recommend keeping a passcode or biometric lock enabled on your device and running a current version of iOS.
Communication between the app and your television happens over your local network using the protocols your television supports. Please note that the security of that network is under your control, not ours: anyone connected to the same Wi-Fi network may be able to observe or send similar device-control traffic. We encourage you to use a password-protected network and to avoid pairing on untrusted public Wi-Fi. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Device permissions
RemoteTV requests the minimum permissions needed to work. iOS will ask for your consent, and you can change your decision at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security or in the app's entry under Settings.
| Permission | Why RemoteTV asks | If you decline |
|---|---|---|
| Local Network | Required. It lets the app find compatible televisions on your Wi-Fi network and send remote control commands to them. This is the core function of the app. | The app cannot discover or control your television. No other feature depends on this permission, and the app makes no use of it beyond device discovery and control. |
RemoteTV does not request access to your location, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, calendar, health data, or Bluetooth. Granting Local Network access does not give us any visibility into your network — the permission is granted to the app on your device, and the app does not report back to us.
10. Children's privacy
RemoteTV is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction, such as 16 in parts of the European Economic Area).
Because the app collects no personal information at all, it collects none from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent us personal information through a support email, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Your rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Privacy law gives you rights over your personal data. RemoteTV is designed so that most of these rights you can exercise yourself, immediately, without asking us — because your data is in your hands, on your device.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom (GDPR)
You have the right to access your personal data; to rectify inaccurate data; to erase it; to restrict or object to its processing; to data portability; and to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. Where processing rests on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time.
If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA)
You have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, or disclosed; the right to delete it; the right to correct it; the right to opt out of its sale or sharing; and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is no opt-out to offer, and we do not offer financial incentives tied to personal information.
How to exercise your rights
Since we hold no personal data about you, there is generally nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or delete on our side. In practice:
- To delete your data, clear it in the app's settings or delete the app from your device. That is complete and immediate.
- To access or correct your data, open the app — the paired devices and preferences it shows you are the entirety of what exists.
- For anything else, including support correspondence you have sent us, email us at exostudio.feedback@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days (or 45 days for CCPA requests, as permitted). We may need to verify your request against the email address you used; we will never ask you to create an account in order to make one.
12. International transfers
EXO Studio is based in Hanoi, Vietnam. However, RemoteTV does not transmit your data to us or to any other country: it stays on your device and on your local network, wherever you happen to be. There is no international transfer of personal data arising from normal use of the app.
The only exception is correspondence you choose to send us. If you email our support address, your message will be processed on email infrastructure that may be located outside your country, including in Vietnam and the United States, and will be read by us in Vietnam. By emailing us, you accept that transfer. Where required for users in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, for such correspondence.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the app, our practices, or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and publish the new version here.
If a change is material — for example, if a future version of RemoteTV were ever to begin collecting personal data — we will provide clear and prominent notice before that change takes effect, and we will obtain your consent where the law requires it. Your continued use of the app after an update takes effect means you accept the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page from time to time.
14. Contact us
